Environmental Policy of NDUNA

Understand WHY NDUNA wants to go greener

There is a requirement for clear, communicable understanding of why NDUNA is “going green.”

Essentially there are two issues to address: pollution and limited supply of resources.

There are moral and commercial imperatives to respond to both of these issues to ensure the long term survival of the organisation. Human activity is creating pollution (primarily carbon dioxide but also for instance methane and nitrous oxide) which gathers in the upper atmosphere with the result that when the sun’s rays heat the Earth, the heat cannot get out and the warming effect on the planet of those rays is exacerbated – The Greenhouse Effect. The fact that it is happening is no longer credibly contested and the remaining debate relates to the rate at which it is occurring.

Understand HOW we go greener

Having established the necessity to take action as a company, the basic principles of how to go about it need to be understood. The overall objective here is to achieve “sustainability” ie: to balance the requirement for resource with the available supply.

The way to achieve this, simplistically, is to apply the three “R”s – Reduce, Re-use, Recycle.

  • Reduce: reduce demand for a resource by addressing each requirement and considering how to minimise it. The resource may be non-renewable energy, landfill space, oil (and products made from oil), metals and any other products made with them.
  • Re-Use: an important part of reducing demand for new products is to re-use resources within an organization.
  • Recycle: When an item has reached the end of its useful life within the organisation then send it for recycling rather than landfill so that the components are converted back into a useful resource for a new application.
